Rigid & Kinesio Taping
What is rigid & kinesio taping?
Taping is a practical treatment technique used to provide extra support to muscles and joints during movement. Depending on what you need, your practitioner may use either rigid taping or flexible kinesio tape.
Rigid taping provides firmer support and can help limit unwanted movement around a joint. Kinesio taping is more flexible, allowing the area to move while providing light support during everyday activity or exercise.
Taping can be used alongside hands-on treatment, mobility work, and exercise rehabilitation, particularly when additional support between appointments may help you stay comfortable and active.
What are the benefits?
Supports joints: Provides extra stability during movement and activity.
Manages movement: Helps limit movements that may aggravate symptoms.
Allows flexibility: Kinesio tape supports movement without rigid restriction.
Supports activity: Can provide added confidence during sport or exercise.
Targeted application: Taping is adapted to the area and your needs.
Complements rehab: Provides support alongside treatment and exercise programs.
Rigid & Kinesio Taping FAQ

-
Rigid strapping tape may be applied when a joint needs additional stability or certain movements need to be limited. It can be useful during activity or rehabilitation when your practitioner wants to provide more structured external support.
-
Yes, sports strapping tape can be applied before training or physical activity when appropriate. The way it’s applied depends on the joint involved, the movements you’ll be performing and the level of support required.
-
Kinesio tape is an elastic tape designed to move with your body rather than significantly restricting motion. Kinesio tape therapy may be used to provide light support to muscles and joints while allowing you to continue moving naturally.
-
Wear time depends on the type of tape, where it’s applied, and how your skin responds. Rigid tape may be used for a shorter period, while flexible Kinesio tape can sometimes remain in place for several days. Your practitioner will advise you when to remove it.
-
Remove the tape if you develop persistent itching, irritation, redness or discomfort. Skin sensitivity can vary, so let your practitioner know about previous reactions to adhesives before taping is applied. Kinesiologie tape and other taping products shouldn’t be left on if they’re irritating your skin.
